The Association of North of England Physicians was developed in 1950 by Hewan Dewar and has been proud to maintain its tradition of providing a forum for physicians to meet and discuss clinical medicine for over 60 years.

The Association of North of England Physicians was formerly known as The Association of Physicians of Region No 1. Dr Hewan Dewar served as Honorary Secretary of the Association for 27 years and as President for nine years.

Dr Dewar instituted the Dewar Research Worker’s prize which is awarded annually to suitable trainees of exceptional Clinical and Research ability. The Prize carries an Endowment of £500.
